NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University women's tennis won a pair of doubles matches and Juliana Pires won in singles in the opening day of the USTA/ITA Regional Championships held at the Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center.
Margarita Belyakova and Melissa Esnal Olguin defeated a team from James Madison 8-5 while Diana Ivanova and Pires knocked off Pittsburgh 8-5 as well.
Pires led the way in singles action for ODU, topping Navy's Gabby Winter 6-4, 6-1. Pires dropped a tough three-setter to Penn State's Carmen Sanford in the second round.
Action continues tomorrow at the Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center at 9 a.m.
