NEWARK, Del. - Five different players scored and Old Dominion shutout its second consecutive opponent as the top-ranked Lady Monarchs breezed past Colonial Athletic Association rival Delaware, 5-0, Sunday afternoon at Rullo Stadium.
Old Dominion, which hasn't allowed a goal in over 158 minutes through the last three contests, improves to 12-0 overall and 3-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association. Delaware falls to 6-6 on the year and 1-1 in conference play.
The Lady Monarchs dominated the action for nearly the entire game, outshooting the Blue Hens 25-3. ODU also earned 10 penalty corners to only two for UD.
Despite holding a decisive edge in the stats, Old Dominion did not break through on the scoreboard until the very end of the first half. The Lady Monarchs earned a penalty corner with no time on the clock and senior Rebecca Condie scored off a rebound of ODU's initial shot.
Old Dominion added a second goal just five minutes into the second half and pulled away with a three-goal flurry in a span of 10 minutes midway through the final period.
Five different ODU players notched goals on the afternoon with Condie being joined by Lydia Velzian, Kelsey Smither, Maartje van Rijswijk and Emma Batten.
Batten, the nation's fifth leading goal-scorer, now has 13 tallies on the year. Smither also add an assist in the game, her team-leading ninth of the year.
Old Dominion hits the road again next weekend, traveling to Towson and Drexel.
