NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion men's and women's swimming and diving swept Howard on Saturday afternoon at the J.C. "Scrap" Chandler Pool.
The Lady Monarchs improved to 3-1 on the year with a 126-61 victory over the Bison as freshman Yesim Giresmsulu set a new school record in the 1000 freestyle.
Giresmsulu set a new school record in capturing the 1000 freestyle in a time of 10:08.88. She resets the record held by Mary Kay Bolduc set in 1998 by over two seconds.
Including Giresmsulu's record breaking performance, the Lady Monarchs earned seven individual first place finishes in the win. Savannah Bowers led the Lady Monarchs to a win in the 200 free (1:57.35), while Sara McLaren touched the wall first in the 50 free (25.57). Jessica Hubert placed first in the 200 IM (2:16.24), with Maddie Stiles picking up a top time in the 100 fly (1:00.17), Kimberley Rashleigh winnning the 100 free (54.41), and Erla Haraldsdottir swimming a first place time in the 100 back (59.42),
The Monarchs meanwhile upped their season record to 2-0 on the year with a 127-59 win over the Bison.
The men's team had seven individual top times with Arni Arnason and Andrew Crockett leading the way with two victories each.
Arnason logged wins in the both the 200 free (1:43.79) and the 100 back (53.90), while Crockett picked up top times in the 100 IM (2:03.07) and 100 free (47.65).
Also earning first place finishes for the Monarchs were Bernardo Figueredo in 1000 free (9:33.73), Chad Smith in the 50 free (21.66), and Carter Watson in the 100 fly (54.02).
The ODU Swimming and Diving team returns to action at the annual pod meet featuring George Mason, James Madison, Northeastern, and William & Mary in Fairfax, Virginia on November 4th and 5th.
