TOWSON, MD--Sophomore Tim Hopkinson (Nottingham, England) scored two goals and fellow sophomore Gideon Asante (Sunyani, Ghana) assisted on two as 17th ranked Old Dominion (9-2/5-1) defeated Towson 4-2 Saturday afternoon. ODU has now won five straight matches.
ODU's first goal come in the first half on a penalty kick by junior Chris Harmon (Downingtown, PA.)15 minutes into the match. At the 24:25 mark, ODU added another with Yannick Smith (Hillsborough, NJ.) scoring on an assist from Gideon Asante. Hopkinson put the Monarchs up 3-0 by halftime on assists from Asante and Harmon.
In the second half the Tigers mounted a rally with goals from Anthon Okodua and Phil Martinelli within seven minutes of each other.
With eight minutes remaining, Hopkinson iced the match with ODU's fourth goal of the day on an assist from Alex De John.
ODU outshot, Towson 17-13 overall and 9-7 in shots on goals. Harmon and Hopkinson each had three shots on goal. ODU's junior goalkeeper Victor Francoz (Fleurieu Sur Saone, France) had five saves.
Smith now leads ODU and the CAA with 27 total points, including 13 goals. Hopkinson is second on the team with 18 points on seven goals and four assists, while Asante has 16 total points with four goals andEight assists.
The Monarchs return to action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Georgia State.
