No. 17 Monarchs Travel to Towson For Saturday Afternoon Match

NORFOLK, VA-- The ODU Soccer Monarchs hit the road again for a Colonial Athletic Association match at Towson Saturday at 1 p.m. The 17-ranked Monarchs have wonfour straight matches, and are 3-2 away from home.

ODU is currently tied with JMU for first in the CAA, both with 4-1 league marks.The Monarchs defeated William and Mary, 3-0 Wednesday night, while JMU lost to VCU.

Junior Yannick Smith, the CAA Player of the Week and National Player of the Week byTopDrawersoccer and College Soccer News leads the Monarchs and CAA in scoring with 12 goals and 25 total points.

Sophomore Gideon Asante leads the team with six assists, followed by Tim Hopkinsonand freshman Ivan Militar with four assists each. Hopkinson and Asante both havefour points each.

ODU's defense has allowed only nine goals with five shutouts. Junior goalkeeperVictor Francoz has a 0.92 goals against average (0.60 in CAA games) and an .827 saves percentage.

Through five CAA matches, the Monarchs have outscored its opponents, 12-3 with three shutouts.

SERIES VS. TOWSON- ODU leads the series, 8-6-3. ODU won, 4-1 in last year's meeting.

The Tigers are led in scoring by Olakunle Banjo with three goals and two assistsfor eight points. Christian Hofer is second with three goals. The Tigers havefour players with two assists i Phil Martinelli, Javier Bermudez, Enrico Skrypzak and Matteo Vertucci along with Banjo.

The Monarchs return home on Oct. 19th when they host Georgia State at 7 p.m.
