NORFOLK, VA-- The ODU Soccer Monarchs travels to Elon for the first of three straight road games. Game time is 7 p.m. in Elon, NC.
The Phoenix are 2-3-1, but have won their last two, including a 3-1 win at Campbell Wednesday night. Junior forward Chris Thomas leads Elon with three goals and two assists, while Junior midfielder Gabe Latigue leads the team with three assists.ODU is 4-1-1 against Elon, but the Phoenix defeated the Monarchs in 2009, 1-0.
The Monarchs are fresh off winning its 36th annual Stihl Soccer Classic with winsover nationally ranked East Tennessee State and Monmouth.
ODU moved up to 11th in the national polls this week by Soccer America. ODU is also 12th by College Soccer News,17TH BY TopdrawerSoccer, 21st by the NSCAA, and 23RD by Soccer Times.
Individually, two Monarchs picked up some national honors in junior midfielder Jordan LeBlanc(Haverford, PA.) and sophomore forward Tim Hopkinson were honored for their efforts In the Monarchs two victories over the weekend.
Hopkinson,(Nottingham, England) recorded two goals and an assist as the sophomore forward scored the Monarchs' second goal and assisted on the third in a 4-0 victory over #19 East Tennessee State on Friday and then had ODU's final goal in a 3-1 triumph over No.13 Monmouth on Sunday. Hopkinson was named to the Stihl Soccer Classic all-tournament team and also was chosen to TopDrawerSoccer's National Team of the Week, and was named the NSCAA National Player of the Week. Jordan LeBlanc (Haverford, PA.) was the MVP of the Stihl Soccer Classic, and was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week.
Joining LeBlanc on the Stihl Classic All-Tournament team was Victor Francoz and ALexDeJohn.
After Saturday's game at Elon, ODU will begin CAA play at George Mason on Sept. 24and Sept. 27th at fifth ranked North Carolina.
