NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion field hockey team received 410 points and a No. 12 ranking in the 2011 Kookaburra / NFHCA Division I Preseason Poll released today.
All but one of Old Dominion's non-conference opponents are ranked in the Top 15, including four in the Top 5. Drexel (No. 18) is the lone other CAA school in the rankings.
The Lady Monarchs posted a 13-11 record in 2010, including a 7-1 mark in the Colonial Athletic Association. ODU captured its 14th CAA championship and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament.
Legendary head coach Beth Anders welcomes back 14 letterwinners and five starters from last years squad, including Second Team All-CAA selection Kathryn Kirk. First team all-conference pick Maartje van Rijswijk returns after tallying 16 goals which ranked third in the conference.
The Lady Monarchs begin the 2011 regular season at home, taking on No. 8 Penn State on Friday at 5 p.m. and No. 10 American on Sunday at 1 p.m.
