NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University women's soccer got on the board first but East Carolina answered with four-straight goals, three by Kimmy Cummings, en route to a 4-1 win at ODU Soccer Stadium Sunday afternoon.
ODU took the 1-0 lead for the second-straight game, as Hallie Rogers sent a pass to Kate Kelly, who dribbled to the right and fired a shot that deflected up and over the ECU goalie and trickled across the goal line for Kelly's first of the year.
The Pirates tied the score in the 28th minute when Hali Oughton sent a free kick into the box that Caty Butler corralled and sent a sot off the left post and in to tie the score.
Just two minutes later, the game was delayed for an hour due to a thunderstorm in the area.
After a return to action, ECU took the lead on Cummings' first of the game as she received a through ball from Beth Batchelor and beat the ODU keeper to the left.
The Pirates capped off the scoring with two second half goals, just six minutes apart. Cummings netted both goals with assists from Brittany Batts and Amanda Malkiewicz.
ODU held a slim 14-13 shot advantage and a 7-4 lead in corner kicks. Kelly led ODU with four shots, while Lisa Bernardini had three shots, with one going off the post and one off the cross bar. Cummings, Butler and Batts had three shots apiece for ECU.
Christiane Cordero made six saves for the Pirates while Brianna Alvarado and Laura Bush had two each for ODU.
The Lady Monarchs are back in action on August, 26, when they hit the road for the first time this season when they travel to NC State for an 8 p.m. start.
