NORFOLK, VA--The 2011 Old Dominion University Sports Hall of Fame induction class features a field hockey Honda Award winner and Olympian, a Lady Monarch basketball Olympian, an All-American Baseball Player, an All-Conference Monarch basketball defensive standout and a CAA golf champion.
The 2011 ODU Hall of Fame induction ceremonies will be held Saturday, Oct. 15 during homecoming weekend at noon. This year's inductees will also be honored during the ODU-Towson football game at 3:30 p.m. This year's class includes Tiffany Snow Huisman (field hockey), Hamchetou Maiga-Ba (women's basketball), Tim Hummel (baseball), Keith Thomas (men's basketball), and Geoffrey Harris (men's golf).
Tiffany Snow Huisman was the 2002 Honda award winner after leading the nation in points (3.0), and goals per game(1.2) per game. A two-time All-American and the 2002 CAA Field Hockey Player of the Year, Snow completed her career ranked sixth on ODU's All-Time scoring leaders list with 71 goals, 90 assists and 181 points. She was the 2002-03 ODU Alumni Associations Female Athlete of the Year. Snow also competed on the USA Olympic Field Hockey squad in the 2008 games in Beijing. She was selected to the CAA's 25th anniversary Field Hockey squad. Tiffany now resides in Temecula, CA with husband Aaron and daughter Taitum who was born in March. She graduated with a degree in physical education.
Hamchetou Maiga-Ba was the 2001 CAA Player of the Year. She was a three-time All-CAA selection and three-time All-Tournament pick. Maiga-Ba completed her career at ODU with 1,483 points. She led theLady Monarchs in rebounding, both in 2001 at 7.4 and 2002 at 8.1, and hauled down a career high 20 rebounds against SMU in March of 2000. She also helped lead the Lady Monarchs to the 2002 NCAA Elite eight and the CAA championship, and was selected to the CAA's All-Defensive squad. Maiga-Ba was selected in the second round of the WNBA draft in 2002 by Sacramento where she teamed withanother Lady Monarch great Ticha Penicheiro to help the Monarchs win the 2005 WNBA title. A nativeof Mali, she helped lead her country to the 2008 Olympic games. She currently lives with her husbandBaba Ba and son Mamadou, who was born in May. Maiga Ba graduated with a degree in information systems. She was named to the CAA's Silver anniversary team in women's basketball, and is currently in her native Mali preparing to compete in the African Championships, which begin Sept.23rd.
Tim Hummel, a native of Montgomery, NY, was the 2000 CAA Player of the Year and CAA Defensive Player of the Year. A consensus All-American, the shortstop was named first team All-American by Collegiate Baseball, the ABCA Coaches, Baseball Weekly and the College Baseball Writers Association and second team by Baseball America. Hummel was a three-time All-CAA selection and the 1998 CAARookie of the Year. In 2000, he helped lead the Monarchs to the NCAA regionals after sharingthe regular season title with ECU. That year he hit .408 with a CAA best 21 doubles, walked 55 times and scored a CAA best 68 runs. His .963 fielding percentage with only 11 errors is an ODU best forshortstops in a single season. Hummel's .508 career on base percentage is the highest in ODU and CAAhistory. Hummel was also selected to the Clemson NCAA Regional All-Tournament team. And was atwo-time CoSIDA District III Academic All-American selection. Tim was the 52nd player selected in the 2000 Major League Baseball draft by the Chicago White Sox. He played two years in the majors for theCincinnati Reds and now resides in Virginia Beach with wife Brooke (former ODU lacrosse player),their son Noah. Hummel, who graduated with a degree in health and physical education is currently head baseball coach at Cape Henry Collegiate.
Keith Thomas is ODU's second all-time free throw percentage leader at .834 (402-282). He won the SunBelt Conference free throw title in 1983 at .855 and 1984 at .859. In 1986, Thomas was named to the Sun Belt's second team All-Conference squad. Known for his tenacious defense, Thomas completed hiscareer at ODU as the school's fifth all-time leader in steals with 160. He also scored 1,530 career pointswhere he currently ranks 14th. As a senior, the Monarchs were the Sun Belt's regular season champions and one of four league teams to earn berths in the NCAA tournament. As a number eight seed, ODU defeated West Virginia before losing to eventual National runner-up Duke in the second round. Thomas was named CBS Player of the Game in the Duke contest. Keith graduated with a degreeIn business and distributive education and currently lives in his native Richmond, Va. where he worksfor the Virginia Corrections Department.
Geoff Harris was the 2003 CAA medalist Champion and CAA Golfer of the Year in both 2002 and 2003.He helped lead ODU to the 2003 CAA team championship with his sudden-death put and then won thetitle in a playoff. Harris was named 2003 CAA Scholar Athlete of the Year and the Golf Coaches Association's All-American Scholar in both 2002 and 2003. He was also one of five finalists for the ByronNelson Award in 2003. Harris ranked second in the region and 26th nationally and his 71.76 stroke average is the lowest in school history. The three-time team MVP from Reading, England led ODU to 15th place at the 2003 NCAA Regionals and he represented Great Britain in the Palmer Cup and competed in the World University Championships. Harris has his degree in physical education and lives in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England with wife Catherine, and two sons, David and Ewan. Geoff is the head golf professional at Rudding Park Golf Academy in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.The induction luncheon and ceremony begins at noon on Oct. 15 in the lobby of the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
