NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University women's soccer scored two goals in the first 17 minutes and never looked back en route to a 4-0 victory over George Washington Thursday night in an exhibition match at the ODU Soccer Stadium.
Lisa Bernardini led the ODU attack with two goals while Kelly Evans and Jessie Klamut had a goal apiece.
ODU got on the board in the sixth minute when Jocelyn Weidner sent in a free kick from the left side that Bernardini knocked in over the head of the GWU keeper for the early lead.
The Lady Monarchs tacked on another goal in the 17th minute when Rachael Carroll sent a long pass down the right side that bounced over the shoulder of a George Washington defender to Evans, who beat the keeper to the left side for the 2-0 advantage.
ODU kept on the attack early in the second half when Amber Cook sent a pass to Klamut who fired a shot from the left side far post for the 3-0 cushion.
The final tally of the night came in the 57th minute, when Kate Kelly dribbled down the right side and sent a cross in front to Bernardini, who knocked it in the back of the net for the final score.
Brianna Alvarado and Laura Bush each made three saves for ODU, while Lindsey Rowe made four stops for the Colonials.
ODU opens its regular season on August 19 when they host Hartford at 7 p.m. at the ODU Soccer Stadium.
