NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion field hockey freshman Kelsey Smither and sophomores Kelly Bonner and Kati Nearhouse were named to the U21 National Team, it was announced by USA Field Hockey.
The trio is now invited to a training weekend at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. in early 2012 and from there the touring teams will be selected. Potential tours for 2012 include the top Junior National Team athletes to play with the Women's National Team Developmental Squad versus an international side who would visit Chula Vista in the first quarter of 2012.
Junior national camp was held at Old Dominion, where the top 102 female field hockey athletes in the country trained in their respective age groups.
The busy summer of field hockey started with nine Lady Monarchs attending Junior High Performance camp at the National Training Center in Virginia Beach. Members of the Mid-Atlantic team included Smither, Julie Hodge, Christy Longacre, Danielle Clutter, Bonner and Nearhouse. Katy Fuhrman, Nicole Goff and Cassandra Wagner represented ODU on the South team.
Bonner, Longacre, Nearhouse and Smither were invited to the Junior National Camp at ODU.

*Pam Stuper (ODU '92), was elected President of the Board of Directors of USA Head Field Hockey.
*ODU field hockey's game against Richmond on September 30th has been moved to Richmond and will begin at 4 p.m.
