Hatch Nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year

NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University field hockey senior Loran Hatch has been nominated for the 2011 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

Hatch capped an outstanding career this season, earning 2010 CAA Defensive Player of the Year, the CAA Tournament's Most Outstanding Player and first team All-CAA selection.

Hatch was named first team NFHCA All-American, making her the program's 29th. Hatch led the Lady Monarchs to a team-high 41 points on 19 goals and three assists. Her 19 goals tied for the CAA lead. As the CAA's top defensive player, Hatch helped anchor ODU's backline that boasted seven shutouts. Five additional opponents were held to just one goal.

She was named to the NFHCA National Academic squad, and helped lead ODU to its 14th CAA title and the NCAA's second round.

A record 473 college and university nominees were received for the 21st annual NCAA Woman of the Year award that will be presented in October.

The award honors senior female student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership.

To be eligible for the award, a female student-athlete must have completed intercollegiate eligibility in her primary sport by the end of the 2011 spring season, graduated no later than the end of the summer 2011 term and achieved a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 2.5.

The top 10 honorees per division will be announced in August, followed by the top three honorees by division in September. The top 30 honorees and the nine finalists from Divisions I, II and III will be honored and the 2010 NCAA Woman of the Year winner will be announced at the annual ceremony in Indianapolis on Oct. 16.
