ST. LOUIS, MO-- ODU's Two-Time All-CAA pitcher Kyle Hald (Springfield, VA.) has signed with the ST. Louis Cardinals and will report to Johnson City in the Appalachian League. Hald was selected in the 18th round by the Cardinals.
Hald, the CAA Co-Pitcher of the Year compiled an 8-3 record with a 3.67 earned run average and for the second straight year he led the CAA in strikeouts with 108 in 95.2 innings, earning him a second straight first team All-CAA honor. The 6-0 Hald also averaged 10.13 strikeouts per nine innings which also was best in the CAA.
This season, Hald fanned 11 batters against Fairfield and VCU and 10 against James Madison as he helped lead ODU to second place in the CAA during the regular season and the CAA Championships.
He fanned eight or more batters in seven of his 14 games. Opponent hitters had only a .230 batting average against him.
As a junior in 2010, Hald tossed shutouts against LaSalle and George Mason and fanned 10 batters against Rutgers as he was the CAA's co-leader with four complete games. He also earned All-Region Honors.
Hald, who graduated in May with a degree in sports management completed his career with 256 strikeouts in 258 innings which ranks him fifth all-time at ODU.
