Hofstra Rallies To Beat Monarchs, 5-4

HEMPSTEAD, NY--Hofsra rallied for three runs in the bottom of the eighth to defeat the Monarchs of Old Dominion, 5-4 Friday afternoon. ODU is now 27-23 overall and 18-10 in the CAA. James Madison is in first with a 20-9 CAA mark after defeating Northeastern 5-0 for the second straight day.

ODU scored three in the top of the third as junior shortstop Joey Burney's single which drove home Frazier for a 4-2 ODU lead.

Hofstra got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Joe Perez belted his ninth homer of the season. The Pride scored again in the sixth on Jared Hammer's RBI single which scored Dylan Nasiatka from second.

The Pride rallied to take a 5-4 lead in the eighth. With Dylan Nasiatka and Matt Reisteter on centerfielder Danny Poma singled home Nasiatka. Firstbaseman Jared Hammer then singled home both Reisteter and Poma to put the Pride in the lead for good.

The Monarchs had nine hits on the day led by Joey Burney's with two hits each. Nasiatka and Hammer led Hofstra with two hits each.

ODU starter Kyle Hald pitched seven innings allowing only four hits, two runs, two walks and six strikeouts in the no decision. Hofstra starter David D'errico struckout eight in seven-plus innings of work.

The two teams will play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 11 am.
