NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion women's basketball signee Kaneisha Atwater will be recognized in PARADE Magazine on Sunday as a member of its 35th annual All-America High School Girls Basketball Team.

The 5-7 Fort Pierce Westwood High School senior guard is the first Lady Monarch to be named a PARADE All-American since Alli Spence in 1999.

PARADE has been recognizing outstanding athletes in various sports -- many who have gone on to star on college and professional teams -- since 1963. Atwater will be among just 40 high school standouts selected to the prestigious squad.

Atwater led the Treasure Coast in points (29.2), assists (6.2) and steals (7.9) per game during the 2010-11 season and also added 7.5 rebounds. During her high school career, she saw time at all five positions on the court and averaged 28.2 points her junior season. Atwater was an All-Area first-team honoree the past two years and posted six triple-doubles during her senior campaign.

Extremely quick and versatile, Atwater ranks ninth all-time in the state in the 400 meters (1:02.17). The combo guard also comes to ODU with a reputation as an exceptional defender.
