NORFOLK, VA-- ODU outfielder Nate Hartman (Orlando, FL.) capped a five-run fourth inning with a two-run double and senior lefthander Kyle Hald (Springfield, VA.) fanned nine batters in six innings to lead the Monarchs to a 6-3 CAA Victory over Towson Friday night. ODU is now 16-16 overall and 8-5 in the CAA.
The contest was originally scheduled for 7 p.m., but because of the forecast of rain in the Hampton Roads area Friday night, was moved up to 4 pm.
The CAA Player of the Week Joey Burney (Gloucester, VA.) , had consecutive RBI hits. Hartman then doubled home both Sizemore and Burney to give ODU a 6-0 lead.
Kyle Hald won his fifth game of the season as he scattered four hits with nine strikeouts and fourwalks. For the second year in a row, Hald continues to lead the league in strikeouts, with this year'stotal of 71 in 55 innings of work and a 2.78 ERA. Dean Ali (Chesapeake, VA. )pitched two shutout innings of relief and Adam Wisniewski (Norfolk, VA.) pitched the ninth.
Towson got on the board in the sixth when Chris Wychock scored from third on a wild pitch andSteve Rice would later come home on an RBI hit by Ben Winter. In the ninth inning, Pat Fitzgerald knocked in Dominic Fratantuono. Fitzgerald led Towson with three hits, while Winter had two.
Josh Wright, Nate Hartman and Josh Tutwiler (Bridgewater) each had two hits on the day for the Monarchs. The second game of the series is Saturday at 4 p.m.
