NORFOLK, VA-- ODU junior shortstop Joshua Wright (Bridgewater, VA.) was named CAAPlayer of the Week and the National strength and Conditioning Association named him All-American athlete - recognizing the student athletes dedication to strengthtraining and conditioning.

Josh Wright batted .385 with three homers and seven RBI to lead Old Dominion to a pair of wins in their three-game series at VCU. Belted a pair of homers in a 5-3 victory last Friday and had a three-run shot in Sunday's 8-5 victory.

Wright is currently hitting .294 overall with nine homers and 25 RBI along with a team best 26 runs scored. In CAA games, he is hitting .362 with six homers and 17 runs batted in with 16 runs scored in just 12 games.

This year, the NSCA awarded 247 collegiate and high school athletes from 96 schools with this esteeded award. Josh Wright was selected by the strength coach Yaw Baidoo, MS, CSCS, who said,"Josh Wright has come full circle this year as a baseball player on and off the field. His ability to lead in the weightroom has become very contagious amongst all the players on the team. Josh is a player thatevery strength coach dreams of having the opportunity to train. I am blessed andhonored to have had the chance to do so."

Alan Kinniburgh, NSCA's Executive Director adds, "The advantages of strength training and conditioning cannot be denied in collegiate and high school athletics.These student-athletes attest to this understanding, and are to be applauded for their hard work and dedication."

The NSCA All-American Athlete of the Year Award program is in its 32nd year, and is made possible by a grant from Power systems, Inc., a Knoxville, Tennessee fitness product leader. ODU returns to action Tuesday night when they travel to Elon for a 6 p.m. game.The Monarchs then host Norfolk State on Wednesday (Autism Awareness Day with Alpha Xi Delta) at 6:30 and then a three-gamehome CAA series beginning Friday night against Towson. Friday nights game is"Flood the Bud" night.
