No. 4 North Carolina Tops Lady Monarchs, 18-7

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never looked back en route to an 18-7 win over Old Dominion University women's lacrosse Sunday afternoon.

After UNC scored four goals in the games first three minutes of the game, Lisa Bernardini got ODU on the board when she received a long pass from Sarah Geary along the right side and ran the length of the field and beat the UNC goalie to the top left.

After UNC scored to make the score 5-1, Sarah Wright grabbed a pass from Meredith Rogers at the top of the crease and beat the UNC keeper up high for the goal.

Rebecca Hartrum drove in from the left and got fouled to earn a free position shot that she bounced past the Tar Heels goalie for ODU's third tally of the game to make the score 8-3.

UNC reeled off six-straight goals, two by Abbey Friend, to take a 14-3 halftime lead.

The two teams were even throughout the second half as each team score four goals. Bernardini got ODU's first second half goal with a drive from the right with a shot that beat the goalie up top.

Bernardini added another tally with another charge from the right before UNC scored three-straight to take an 18-5 lead.

The Lady Monarchs grabbed the final two goals of the afternoon, one each from Tracy Reed and Hartrum.

Bernardini led ODU offensively with three goals while Hartrum added two. Friend led the Tar Heels with four goals while Laura Zimmerman added three.

Sarah Geary mades seven saves in goal for ODU while Lauren Maksym and Britt Giacco combined to make four stops for UNC.
