NORFOLK, Va. - Ashley Holofcener and Taelor Salmon combined to score eight goals to lead William and Mary to a 16-11 win over Old Dominion University women's lacrosse Wednesday night at the Powhatan Sports Complex.
The Tribe pulled ahead 13-5 just five minutes into the second half, but the Lady Monarchs fought right back with four-straight goals to make the score 13-9.
Sarah Wright scored two of the goals while Alyssa Dragon and Lisa Bernardini each added one.
Jenny Michael scored to make it 14-9 Meredith Rogers got ODU right back in it with a free position shot goal to make it 14-10 with nine minutes left.
Holofcener came right back to score two-straight goals to put the score at 16-10.
Rogers added another goal with 42 seconds left to make the final score 16-11.
For the third-straight game ODU got on the board first as Bernardini fired a shot past Emily Geary to give ODU a 1-0 lead just 53 seconds into the game.
Maggie Anderson scored to tie the score for W&M.
The teams traded goals until W&M took a 7-3 lead with four-straight goals before Rebecca Hartrum scored an unassisted goal. Hartrum was able to grab a deflected ODU shot and fire her own shot past the W&M keeper.
The Tribe scored two more goals before Rogers got the final goal of the half off a pass from Emma Kriss to cut the Tribe's halftime lead to 9-5.
Holofcener had four goals and three assists while Salmon had four goals to lead W&M.
Wright and Rogers had three goals apiece for ODU while Bernardini had two goals and two assists. Bernardini stretched her consecutive game point streak to 34 straight games.
Sarah Geary made 11 saves in goal for the Lady Monarchs while Emily Geary made six stops for W&M.
With the win, William and Mary clinched the No. 3 seed in the upcoming CAA Tournament.
The Lady Monarchs end the season with a 4-11 overall mark and 3-4 in the CAA.
Seniors Brienna Faust, Tracy Reed and Clara Flanagan were honored in a pregame ceremony.
