NORFOLK, VA--Kenny Stoneback's(Colonial Heights, VA.) three-run double in the fourth and Phil McCarthy's (Chesapeake, Va.) complete game lifted Old Dominion (21-20/13-8) to a 10-3 CAA victory over George Mason Sunday afternoon. ODU is tied with Delaware for second with 13-8 CAA records.
Mason took a 2-0 lead into the fourth when with two outs and the bases loaded Stoneback doubled to left center scoring Shawn Sizemore (Newport News, Va.) , Edgar Hernandez (Luquillo, PR) and Brandon Stahl (E.Norwich, NY.) to give the Monarchs a 3-2 lead.ODU would scored two more runs in that inning on an error and and RBI single by Brent Frazier (Fairfax Station,VA.) to go up 5-2.
ODU added four more runs in the sixth on a two run RBI singles by Joey Burney (Gloucester, VA. ) .The Monarchs final run in the seventh came on an RBI single by Brent Frazier.
Junior righthander Phil McCarthy (Chesapeake, VA.)improved his record to 6-3 with his third completegame of the season. He scattered eight hits with just one walk on the day, and lowered his earned runaverage to 3.90.
Brent Frazier led the Monarchs with four hits in five at-bats. Frazier, Baker, and Burney each knocked inTwo runs two go along with Stoneback's three RBI's. Brandon Stahl and Stoneback each had two hits and scored twice.
George Mason was led by Jeremy Hass with two hits on the day. Haas doubled home Zack Helgeson in the ninth. Blaise Fernandez andShane Davis each knocked in runs in the third inning for the Patriots.
ODU returns to action on Tuesday afternoon when they host East Carolina at 3 p.m. at the Bud MethenyBaseball Complex.
