NEWARK, Del. - Old Dominion University women's lacrosse mounted a late comeback scoring three-straight goals but it was not enough as Delaware hung on for an 9-6 win Sunday afternoon at Delaware Stadium.
Meredith Rogers got ODU to within two at 8-6 off a pass from Tracy Reed with just under five minutes left in the game,
ODU was unable to get any closer as a turnover and a shot from Rogers sailed wide as the Blue hens hung onto the ball the rest of the game. Delaware scored with .4 seconds left for the final score of the game.
Delaware took a 4-2 halftime lead but Lisa Bernardini got ODU to within one with a free position shot goal.
Delaware scored four-straight to take an 8-3 lead before ODU began its late rally.
Tracy Reed got ODU back on the board and she delivered a goal from the right side off an assist from Sarah Wright.
Rogers got the Lady Monarchs even closer as she shot one past the UD keeper from the left side that just snuck inside the post to make the score 8-5.
Rogers got ODU within two at 8-6 as Reed had a free position opportunity and sent a pass down low to Rogers who shot it past the UD goalie.
ODU got on the board first when Meredith Rogers sent a pass from the right into the middle to Rebecca Reymann who beat the Delaware goalie to the right.
Delaware scored two-straight goals to take a 2-1 lead. Corrine Drost and Morgan Leonard scored for the Blue Hens.
Wright tied the game at two when she got the ball at the top of the circle, drove to her right, spun back around to the center and delivered a shot past the keeper for the goal.
The Blue Hens retook the lead with a goal by Jeffers and added another one by Leonard to take a 4-2 halftime lead.
The Lady Monarchs return home on April 27 for Senior Day when they host William and Mary at 7 p.m.
