ODU Opens CAA Championship Play Friday At Pinehurst

The 2011 CAA men's and women's Golf Championships begin on Friday morning at The Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, N.C. The 54-hole tournaments will conclude on Sunday afternoon with the winners earning an automatic berth to the NCAA Championship.Eleven men's squads will compete at the par 72, 7,092-yard Pinehurst No. 8 Course. Six different squads have won the CAA men's golf championship title since 2005.

The Monarchs will be led by senior Sam Wall along with Neil Henderson and TomWilde. Wall has a 74.4 spring stroke average, Henderson 76.1 Wilde 74.9 spring stroke averages.

Wall fiished 19th at the Caribbean and 26 at Pinehurest tournaments, Henderson was 13th at Joe Agee, Wall 13 at Joe Agee and 17th at VCU tournaments. Garth McGee tied for ninth at Caribbean and James Brockington tied for first at Joe Agee.

As a team, ODU had four top 10 finishes which include a 10th at Maryland, a firstat Joe Agee, ninth at Seahawk and fourth at Caribbean.

Towson is the defending CAA men's golf champion, after claiming their first CAA Men's Golf title in 2010 at The Homestead. The Tigers are lead by John Duthie, Nyasha Mauchaza and Johnny Hayes, IV.

UNC Wilmington men's team enters the CAA tournament ranked a top the CAA standings and will be lead by senior Josh Brock, Payne McLeod, Thomas Bass and Ryan Sullivan. All four enter the tournament ranked in the top five among all CAA players. Other top contenders include VCU, which is led by Matt Ball, Jr., and Mark Jargren, Georgia State and James Madison.
