Women's Lacrosse Wins Third-Straight with 6-4 Triumph Over Hofstra

NORFOLK, Va. - Sarah Wright scored with just inder six minutes remaining in the game and Rebecca Hartrum scored an insurance goal with two minutes to play to lift Old Dominion University women's lacrosse to a 6-4 victory Sunday afternoon at the Powhatan Sports Complex.

With the win, ODU improves to 4-8 overall and 3-1 in the CAA while Hofstra drops to 4-9 and 0-4 in CAA play.

Each teams offense sputtered in the first half combining for four goals and 20 turnovers.

The Lady Monarchs stepped up the offense in the second half, taking the 3-2 lead on an Alyssa Dragon goal just three minutes into the period. Dragon received a pass from Hartrum for her seventh tally of the year.

Casey Kellogg tied the score at three with a free position shot but Lisa Bernardini gave ODU back the lead with a driving goal.

Jenn Ward evened things back up at four but Wright was able to unlock the score with a drive from the left for the game-winner.

Wright gave ODU the lead just two minutes in when she got a pass from Bernardini in front of the goal and beat the goalie for the 1-0 lead.

Ward tied it up at one for Hofstra but Bernardini got unassisted goal to give ODU a 2-1 lead.

ODU never trailed in the game and it was the first time this season they won a game by more than one goal.

Bernardini had two goals and an assist to lead ODU, while Wright had two goals and Hartrum added a goal and an assist.

Ward had two goals to lead Hofstra.

Sarah Geary made 10 stops for ODU while Jackie Pandolff made eight for the Pride.
