ATLANTA, GA--ODU senior lefthander Kyle Hald (Springfield, VA.) scattered eight hits and pitched a complete game 4-1 victory over Georgia State Friday afternoon. ODU is now 18-17 overall and 10-6 in the CAA, while GSU falls to 26-10 overall and 7-6 in the CAA.
Hald (6-2) the CAA's strikeout leader, fanned seven and walked just two as he outdueled the Panther's Will Campbell (6-1) and handed him his first loss of the season. Hald and Campbell are now tied for the CAA lead in wins. Hald lowered his ERA to 2.53 and now has 78 strikeouts in 64 innings of work.
In the first inning Joey Burney (Gloucester, Va.) led off the second inning with a solo homer to right, his fifth homer of the season.

Georgia State's lone run came in the fifth as Bryan Condatta scored from third on an ODU turned double play.
Burney, Stoneback and Josh Tutwiler (Bridgewater, VA.) led the Monarchs with two hits each., while Brandon Williams had two hits for the Panthers.
The Panthers threatened in the fourth inning with one out and bases loaded butHald struck out the next two batters to get out of the jam.
The game was moved up from its originally scheduled 6 p.m. start to 2:30 because of incoming thunder storms forecast for the Atlanta area. Game two of the series is Saturday and the time has been moved to 3 p.m.
