Lady Monarch Basketball Selected Fifth In CAA Preseason Poll

2011 VaSID All-State Women's Basketball Team

NORFOLK, Va. - A pair of Old Dominion women's basketball players were named to the All-State team today as both Lady Monarch senior Jasmine Parker and junior Tia Lewis were chosen for the second team in the annual voting by the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association (VaSID) for the 2011 University Division All-State Women's Basketball Team.

Parker averaged 11.8 points and 4.3 assists a game en route to being named Second Team All-CAA this year. The Norfolk native also shined on the defensive end, ranking ninth nationally with 3.2 steals per contest and being named CAA Defensive Player of the Year. Parker led the Lady Monarchs in assists, steals, free throw percentage (79.0), three-point field goals made (55) and assist/turnover ratio (1.0). She ends her career 23rd all-time at ODU in scoring and seventh in steals.

Lewis led the Lady Monarchs in both scoring (12.1 ppg) and rebounding (7.8 rpg) in 2010-11 as the junior was a Third Team All-CAA selection. The Poulan, Ga. native ranked in the Top 5 in the CAA in double-doubles (8), field goal percentage (51.2) and blocks per game (1.1). Lewis scored her 1,000th career point this year and was named to the Tulane/Double Tree Classic All-Tournament Team.

James Madison guard Dawn Evans was selected as Player of the Year, while Hampton head coach David Six was chosen Coach of the Year and Virginia guard Ataira Franklin was name Rookie of the Year.
