Second Half Surge Not Enough as Women's Lacrosse Falls to Richmond, 12-8

RICHMOND, Va. - Lisa Bernardini scored five goals but it would not be enough as Old Dominion University women's lacrosse fell at Richmond 12-8 Wednesday evening at Richmond.

Old Dominion got on the board first with a goal from Sarah Wright off an assist from Bernardini.

Richmond tied the score with an unassisted goal from Danielle Schaevitz but ODU retook the lead with a Bernardini unassisted goal.

Richmond followed with three-straight goals to take a 4-3 lead before Rebecca Hartum tallied a goal off an assist from Tracy Reed. Hartrum accepted a pass from Reed who was behind the goal and put it past the left side of the goalie.

Bernardini put in another unassisted goal to tie the score at four.

The Spiders scored five-straight goals heading into halftime, two from Mary Flowers, to take a 9-4 halftime lead.

ODU fought back with a goal just 47 seconds into the second half from Bernardini and another goal by Bernardini just three minutes later to cut the deficit to 9-7.

Richmond pushed the lead to 12-6 with three-straight goals, two from Kara Moschetti, to take the six goal advantage.

The Lady Monarchs cut the lead to five when Wright sent a pass to the right side of the field that Emily Austerberry carried in and delivered a shot past the UR goalie for her first career goal.

Bernardini scored for the final time with 31 seconds left for the final margin of 12-8.

ODU outscored the Spiders 4-3 in the second half. Bernardini added an assist to go with her game-high five goals. Wright added a goal and assist.

Sam Stevenson and Schaevitz led Richmond with three goals apiece while Moschetti and Mary Flowers each had two goals.

Victoria Roebuck had six saves for UR while Sarah Geary made 12 stops for ODU.
