Penn State Defeats ODU, 10-4

NORFOLK, VA--Josh Wright (Bridgewater, VA.) knocked in two runs for Old Dominion, but Penn State rallied for a 10-4 victory Wednesday afternoon atthe Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.

The Nittany Lions Mike Franklin pitched seven innings for his first win of the season. After giving upFour Monarch runs in the first two innings, settled down with six strikeouts and no walks.

ODU took a 4-0 lead as Josh Wright led off the bottom of the first with a solo homer, his second of theseason. In the second inning freshman outfielder Jared Lipscombe (Mechanicsville, VA.) singled home junior third baseman Brent Frazier( Fairfax Station, VA.),then freshman Ty Yesensky (Endwell, NY.) scored on Kenny Stoneback's (Colonial Heights, VA.) ground out and Wright dropped a bunt down the third base line to plate Lipscombe from third.

After scoring three runs in the fourth PSU took the lead in the fifth on a two-run double down the left field line by Alex Farkes which scored Joey DeBernardis and Ryan Clark.

The Monarchs return to action this weekend with a three-game CAA series against William and Mary.Friday's game will start at 5 p.m. at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.
