NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University women's lacrosse scored four-straight goals to begin the second half but American countered with seven consecutive en route to a 13-7 win at Powhatan Sports Complex Saturday afternoon.
Old Dominion (0-2) got on the board first with a goal by Sarah Wright off an assist from Lisa Bernardini. American came back with six-straight goals, two from Kimberly Collins, to take a 6-1 lead into halftime.
The Lady Monarchs came out blazing to begin the second half, scoring less than two minutes into the period on a Meredith Rogers goal off an assist by Bernardini. ODU stayed on the attack and scored just 14 seconds later on a goal by Tracy Reed. Reed received a nice pass from Alyssa Dragon before beating the goalie.
Reed struck again to close the gap to 6-4, this time off a free position just 27 seconds after her first goal. ODU continued the attack scoring just 17 seconds later, this time Dragon got an unassisted goal to pull the Lady Monarchs to within one.
American's Lisa Schaaf scored at the 17 minute mark and the Eagles would score six more goals before Courtney Johnson found the back of the net for ODU. Jordynn Collins closed out the scoring for Old Dominion.
Bernadette Maher had three goals to lead American while Collins, Samantha Marshall, Emily Stankiewicz and Eliza Morgan each had two.
Reed led ODU with two goals while Bernardini had two assists.
Kaska Komosinski made 10 saves in goal for American while Sarah Geary made 16 stops for ODU.
ODU is back in action on Wednesday, March 9 when they travel to Richmond for a 4 p.m. contest.
