Hald And Josh Wright Lead ODU Over JMU, 5-4

HARRISONBURG, VA-- ODU junior shortstop Josh Wright (Bridgewater, VA.) slammed a three-run homer in the fifth and senior lefthander Kyle Hald (Springfield, VA.) fanned 10 batters to lead the Monarchs to a 5-4 CAA victory over James Madison Friday afternoon at Eagle Field.-Vet Memorial Park. ODU is 11-13 overall and 4-3 in the CAA, while JMU is 17-6 overall and 7-3 in the CAA.

ODU took a 1-0 lead on a two-out solo homer by Kenny Stoneback (Colonial Heights, VA.) in the third inning. The Monarchs added to that in the top of the fourth when sophomore thirdbaseman Sizemore singled home Josh Wright.

In the fifth innning Josh Wright hit a two-out, three-run homer over the left field fence with Brent Frazier (Fairfax, Station, VA)and freshman Brian Bashara (Norfolk, VA.) aboard. Wright leads the Monarchs with six homers this year.

JMU got on the board in the bottom of the fourth as Tyler McFarland singled home Ian Haynes.In the bottom of the sixth JMU's Tyler McFarlane singled home Jake Lowery and David Herbek came home on a sacrifice fly RBI by Bradley Shaban.

JMU inched closer in the seventh with a run when David Herbek doubled home Jake Lowery with two outs.

Hald pitched seven innings with 10 and only two walks to improve his record to 3-2. Hald now has a CAA best 51 strikeouts in 43 innings. Freshman Dean Ali (Chesapeake, Va.) pitched the eighth and part of the ninth before senior righthander Adam Wisniewski (Norfolk, VA.) came on to strikeout out Herbek with a runner on second for his fifth save of the season.

Wright led ODU with two hits along with Nate Hartman, while JMU was led by Lowery, Herbek and McFarland with two hits each.

Due to anticipated winter conditions on Sunday in the Shenandoah Valley, the series has been changed to a noon doubleheader on Saturday. There will be no game on Sunday at Eagle Field at Veterans Memorial Park.
