Late Rally Falls Short for Lady Monarchs in 15-11 Setack to Longwood

NORFOLK, Va. - Lisa Bernardini and Rebecca Reymann scored three goals apiece for Old Dominion but it would not be enough as the Lady Monarchs fell to Longwood 15-11 Wednesday evening.

Longwood (5-3) took a 3-0 lead in the games first six minutes before ODU got on the board with an unassisted goal from Meredith Rogers.

ODU (1-4) closed the gap to 3-2 with a goal from Lisa Bernardini off a pass from Rebecca Hartrum.

The two teams would trade goals until ODU tied the score at five on Reymann's first two goals of the season.

The Lancers' Sam Stifler scored on a free position shot to take a 6-5 lead but Hartrum returned the favor with one of her own to tie the score at six.

Longwood scored the next two goals to take an 8-6 halftime lead.

The Lancers came out firing after halftime, scoring the first four goals of the second half to take a 12-6 lead.

ODU closed the gap to 14-10 on goals by Sarah Wright and Reymann but Longwood added another goal with two minutes left to make the score 15-10. Hartrum added ODU's final tally with 22 seconds left for the 15-11 margin.

Kesley Dean and Jess Rudloff score four goals apiece for Longwood while Dean recorded two assists.

Reymann scored her first three goals of the season while Bernardini added two assists to go along with her three goals. Hartrum added two goals and an assist as well.

The Lady Monarchs are back in action on Saturday as they travel to Virginia Tech for a 1 p.m. match.
