Hassell Leads ODU Over Georgia State, 51-48

ATLANTA, GA-- Frank Hassell's follow and free throw with 6.6 seconds left in the game lifted the Monarchs to a 51-48 come-from-behind win overGeorgia State Wendesday night.

After a Panther turnover, Frank Hassell got a put back on a missed shot by Darius James. He was fouled on the play and hit the free throw to give ODU a 50-48 lead.GSU's inbounds play was picked off by Kent Bazemore who fed Ben Finney. Finney wasthen fouled with 1.2 seconds left, hitting one of two free throws for the finalmargin, 51-48.

Hassell finished the game with a team best 15 points, hitting six-of-10 from thefloor and three-of-four from the line. Keyon Carter added eight points and KentBazemore finished with seven along with another three steals, all in the secondhalf.

Georgia State jumped out to a 14-4 lead with 11:20 left in the first half. The Monarchs rallied and took a 24-23 lead into halftime after two free throws by Kent Bazemore.

The Panthers recaptured the lead, 28-27 with 16:54 left on a three-pointer by Javonte Maynor. GSU led by as many as eight twice, 37-29 with 11:59 left in thegame and 40-32 with 10:15 left on a trey by Dante Curry.

ODU gradually cut the lead, outscoring the Panthers 19-8 in the final 10 minutesof the contest highlighted by back-to-back treys from Darius James and Ben Finney.

ODU finished the game shooting .364 (16-44) from the floor, while GSU shot .415(17-41). The Monarchs outrebounded the Panthers, 30-25 and forced them into 15turnovers, while ODU had 11.

Brandon McGee led Georgia State with 14 points, while Javonte Maynor added 11points.

The Monarchs return home to host Towson on Saturday at 5 p.m. in a ESPNU televisedconstest.It is also Military night, show you I.D. and receive a 7.00 ticket. ODUbasketball Alumni will be introduced at halftime.
