Monarchs Storm Back From Deficit, Top Richmond 77-70

NORFOLK, Va. - Kent Bazemore scored a career-high 22 points to as Old Dominion University went on a 15-3 run to take control for a 77-70 win over Richmond Wednesday night at the Ted Constant Convocation Center before a sellout crowd of 8457.

Richmond (6-2) took its largest lead of the night at 56-48 on a three-pointer by Kevin Anderson, but ODU countered right back with seven-straight points capped off by a Keyon Carter jumper to pull back to within one.

Another Anderson three put Richmond up by two, but the Monarchs rattled off 12 in-a-row to pull away and take a 70-61 advantage. Bazemore scored 10-of-12 points in the streak.

Joining Bazemore in double figures was Frank Hassell, and Ben Finney. Hassellscored 15 points and hauled down 12 rebounds along with two blocked shots for his second double-double of the year. Finney scored 12 points with two steals, a blockand seven rebounds. Darius James dished out five assists.

Besides a career high 22 points, Bazemore, a member of the CAA's All-Defensive squad last year grabbed six rebounds, dished out three assists and came up with five steals along with eight-for-nine free throw shooting. Three of Bazemore's steals came in the last four minutes of the contestwith the game tied at 61 and after his third steals, ODU was up nine, 70-61.

Anderson led the Spiders with 23 points while Cedrick Lindsay added 15, all in the second half.

ODU shot .452 (28-62) from the floor and dominated the boards again, 41-29. TheSpiders shot .460 (29-63) from the floor and hit 11-23 (.478) from three-pointrange.

ODU is now 2-0 against two of the top four teams in the Atlantic-10 (Xavier & Richmond), and still have to play Dayton at home on Dec. 11.

The Monarchs begin CAA play on Saturday when they take on Delaware on Saturday at 7 p.m. in Newark,DE.
