NORFOLK, Va. - JoNiquia Guilford scored a game-high 19 points as Old Dominion University women's basketball rolled to a 77-45 win over Bowie State on Tuesday in its final exhibition game of the season.
Old Dominion's defense led the way in the opening half, holding the Bulldogs to 22.6 percent shooting from the field. The Lady Monarchs led 35-16 at the intermission in large part to Jackie Cook's 11 points and 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc.
The Lady Monarchs kept on the attack in the second half, shooting 55.2 percent while holding BSU to 38.1 percent in the half and 28.8 percent for the game.
Cook chipped in 13 points and seven boards, while Tia Lewis added six points and a game-high 13 boards.
Bowie State was paced by Chanita Jordan who had 13 points and six rebounds.
Old Dominion opens the 2010-11 season at home against Atlantic Coast Conference foe Georgia Tech on Sunday, Nov. 14. The game is set to tip at 2 p.m. from the Ted Constant Center.
The Yellow Jackets return four starters from a team that reached the NCAA Tournament a year ago. With last year's appearance, Georgia Tech has now made four consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament.
