NORFOLK, VA--ODU senior Ben Finney (Portsmouth, VA.) scored 16 points and the Monarchs hit 50 percent of their shots from the floor to defeat Elizabeth City State, 74-41 in the final exhibition game. ODU opens the regular season next Friday at home against Georgetown.
Finney hit six of 11 shots from the field and dished out four assists. Junior guard Kent Bazemore (Kelford, NC.) added 10 points with three steals, while Frank Hassell (Chesapeake, VA. )hauled down nine rebounds. Darius James scored nine points, Trian Iliadis (Perth, W.Australia), Chris Cooper (Dumfries, VA.) scored eight points each,and Marquel De Lancey (Woodbridge, VA.) scored seven points with four assists and five rebounds.
ODU shot 27-54 from the floor and outrebounded the Vikings, 48-29.Every Monarch scored atleast two points and grabbed atleast two rebounds on the night.
Quinton Spady led ECSU with 10 points, while Paul Goldsmith, Blake Price and Marquie Cooke grabbed four rebounds each. The Vikings shot .302 (16-53) from the floor and turned it over 15 times.
Throught the two exhbition games, Ben Finney was the Monarchs leading scorer, averaging 17.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. Kent Bazemore was second at 11.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. Frank Hassell average 9.0 rebounds as well.ODU sht .467 (57-122) from the floor and hauled down an average of 51.5 boards.
