PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Four Old Dominion field hockey players received honors at the annual Colonial Athletic Association awards banquet, held Friday night in Philadelphia, Pa. Senior Loran Hatch was named CAA Defensive Player of the Year and selected to the All-CAA First Team.

Hatch was joined on the All-CAA First Team by Lady Monarch sophomore Maartje van Rijswijk, while junior forward Kathryn Kirk was chosen for the All-CAA Second Team. ODU freshman Kati Nearhouse was named to the All-CAA Rookie Team.

Hatch is the sixth player in ODU history to capture Defensive Player of the Year honors since the CAA began presenting the award 12 years ago. The senior back headlined an ODU defense that posted four shutouts and held an additional five opponents to a lone goal this season. Hatch and the Lady Monarchs recorded three straight shutouts to open CAA play and limited league foes to just eight goals in eight conference contests this season.

The Green Lane, Pa., native doubled as an offensive threat this season, ranking second in the CAA with 17 goals in her senior campaign. She notches her first All-CAA first team nod after earning Rookie of the Year accolades in 2007.

Van Rijswijk ended the season second on the team and third in the conference with 14 goals. The sophomore netted a career-high three scores against No. 1 Maryland on October 15.

Kirk ended the year third on the team in assists and fifth in total points. Nearhouse saw action in 19 games, more than any other ODU freshman, and she was the lone Lady Monarch newcomer to post a goal this season.

Drexel senior Christina Mastropaolo won CAA Player of the Year for the second straight season after tallying a league-high 10 goals in conference games. Others earning top field hockey honors from the conference were VCU freshman back Rymee van Dessel as CAA Rookie of the Year and VCU's Kelly McQuade as CAA Coach of the Year.
