Lady Monarchs Host Davis & Elkins In Exhibition Friday

NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion University women's basketball team welcomes Davis & Elkins to the Ted Constant Center for the first of its two exhibition games Friday at 7 p.m.

Old Dominion opened the 2010-11 season with the annual Blue-White game on October 29. Senior Alena Voronina led three Lady Monarchs in double figures with 14 points. Junior Tia Lewis chipped in 13 points and six rebounds, while senior Shadasia Green netted 10 points. Redshirt sophomore JoNiquia Guilford led the team with four assists and hauled in six rebounds.

Davis & Elkins, located in Elkins, W. Va., is a member of the NCAA Div. II West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and is coached by Jason Asbell. The Senators went 14-14 a year ago and fell to West Liberty in the WVIAC Tournament First Round. Sophomore guard Shalisa Hill is the squads leading returner after averaging 15.0 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game a year ago.

Old Dominion finished atop the Colonial Athletic Association regular-season standings a year ago on the way to its 18th postseason appearance in the last 19 years. The Lady Monarchs welcomes back four starters and a number of top reserves for the 2010-11 season.

The Lady Monarchs had three players named to the Preseason All-CAA Second Team and the 2010-11 squad was picked to finish second in the conference according to a vote of the league's women's basketball coaches. Green, Lewis and Jasmine Parker were all named Second Team Preseason All-CAA.

Old Dominion will play one more exhibition game, against Bowie State (Nov. 9), before opening the regular season at home against Georgia Tech on November 14 at 2 p.m.
