RALEIGH, N.C. - Old Dominion senior Jasmine Parker scored a season-high 23 points, but NC State erased a double-digit deficit and withstood a shot at the buzzer that could have sent the game into overtime in a 62-60 Wolfpack win over the Lady Monarchs Tuesday evening at Reynolds Coliseum.

Old Dominion freshman Shakeva Richards had a good look from the top of the key to send the contest into an extra stanza, but her jumper hit back iron as the buzzer sounded. The Lady Monarchs suffer their first loss of the season and drop to 2-1 on the year.

NC State's Bonae Holston scored all of her team-high 20 points in the second half as the Wolfpack improve to 3-2. NC State held a 29-12 advantage in free throw attempts and controlled the boards, 52-37.

Old Dominion started the game slow and NC State took advantage, scoring the first eight points. The Lady Monarchs missed their first nine shots and didn't record a bucket until the 14-minute mark of the opening stanza.

ODU clawed its way back behind a barrage of three-point field goals. After falling behind eight, the Lady Monarchs went on a 13-4 run to take their first lead, 13-12, midway through the first period. Parker, Kquanise Byrd and Jackie Cook all drilled triples during the spurt.

With the game knotted at 16, Old Dominion scored seven straight points to ignite a 12-2 run that gave the Lady Monarchs their biggest lead of the first half, 28-18, with just over four minutes remaining in the stanza. ODU closed the half making 11 of 20 field goals after the dreadful start. Six of those 11 made field goals would come from beyond the arc and the Lady Monarchs led 30-22 at the break.

NC State wouldn't trail long in the second half, going on a 23-15 run out of the break to tie the game at 45 at the 12:22 mark. Holston tallied 14 points in the first 7:38 of the second half.

The Wolfpack took their first lead of the second period with just over 10 minutes remaining on a pair of Holston free throws. NC State increased its lead to nine, its largest of the game, on a Holston jumper at the 8:15 mark.

The Lady Monarchs got back into the game during the next three minute though, going on an 8-0 run with Parker scoring six of ODU's points during the surge.

NC State built its lead back up to 62-57 with 41 seconds remaining, but senior Alena Voronina drilled a triple to cut the lead to two. The Lady Monarchs elected not to foul on NC State's next possession and the move paid off as the Wolfpack turned the ball over with 7.3 seconds remaining.

After a timeout, Parker dribbled the length of the court and got the ball to classmate Shadasia Green, who found an open Richards. The freshman had to rush the shot as the clock wound down and as the jumper hit back iron, the game ended.

Parker, who was just one point shy of her career-high in scoring, added to her stat line with a career-high tying six steals and six rebounds.

Junior Tia Lewis, ODU's leading scorer entering the game, was plagued with foul trouble and only played 15 minutes, scoring four points. Voronina was in double figures for the third consecutive game with 10 points and six rebounds.

Old Dominion now returns home for a day after Thanksgiving matchup with BIG EAST foe Louisville. The game will tip from the Constant Center on Friday at 7 p.m.
