No. 19 ODU Hosts No. 2 UNC Saturday In Regular Season Home Finale

NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion field hockey team will conclude its home schedule on Saturday as the 19th-ranked Lady Monarchs host No. 2 North Carolina at 1 p.m. The contest will be ODU's annual scholarship game and the final home game for six Lady Monarch seniors.

Tickets for the scholarship game are $5 with the proceeds benefiting the ODU Intercollegiate Foundation for Field Hockey. ODU students can still get in free with a valid ID.The ceremony honoring the Lady Monarch seniors will take place after the game.

Additionally, the first 100 fans that arrive at the Powhatan Sports Complex Saturday will receive an ODU Field Hockey dry fit t-shirt.

Old Dominion (9-9, 6-1 CAA) will also be in action Sunday, traveling to William & Mary to wrap up the regular season against the Tribe at 1 p.m.

In the bid for the Colonial Athletic Association Tournaments top spot, ODU has replaced Drexel as the league leader heading down the home stretch of the regular season. The Lady Monarchs improved to 6-1 in the league after earning decisive home wins against VCU (4-2) and James Madison (4-1) last weekend.

Drexel was upset 3-2 at Northeastern last Sunday to fall to 5-1 in league play, but the Dragons still hold the tiebreaker over the Lady Monarchs and will earn the right to host if they hold serve over Towson and Delaware at Buckley Field this weekend.

Old Dominion has seen stellar play lately from Lady Monarch forward Maartje van Rijswijk, who is the current CAA Co-Player of the Week. The Virginia Beach, Va. Native has scored in four consecutive contests and has sent seven scores to the back of the cage during this four-game stretch.

ODU's Paige Clutter continues to be ranked nationally as her 0.94 assists per game are tops in the CAA and eighth best in the country.

North Carolina (16-1) suffered its first loss of the season last Saturday against Maryland in a battle of the nation's top two teams. Kelsey Kolojejchick leads the Tar Heels with 34 points on 14 goals and six assists. UNC topped ODU in Chapel Hill, 3-1, on September 17.

William & Mary (4-13, 2-5 CAA) is coming off a 4-1 loss against VCU last Sunday. Goalie Elizabeth Frey recorded 19 saves last week in three games and now boasts 62 on the year.
