POWELLS POINT, NC--East Carolina increased its lead at the ODU-Outerbanks Collegiate Golf Tournament by 16 strokes. The Pirates are 24-under par as a team with a 552 score through 36 holes in the 18-team event at the Kilmarlic Golf Course.
Individually, ECU's Harold Varner fired a 66 today for a two day total of 131 and is three strokes ahead of Furman's Matthew Broome. The Pirates have four players in the top 12. Joining Varner are David Watkins at 141 who is tied for ninth, Zach Edmondson and Ryan Eibner at 142 and tied for 12th.
Host Old Dominion moved up a spot to 13th after shooting 296 today. Leading the way for the Monarchs is Sam Wall (Essex, England) who shot 71 today for 144 and is tied for 18th overall. ODU freshmen Preston Leigh (Suffolk, Va.), and John Dawson (Chesapeake, Va.) are tied for 34th with 146 scores. Dawson shot 71 today.
