NEWARK, DE--Jon Scheer's penalty kick with less than six minutes left in the second overtime period lifted the University of Delaware to a 1-0 Colonial Athletic Association victory over ODU Saturday night. ODU is 5-3-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the CAA, while Delaware is 2-5-1 overall and 1-1-0 in the CAA.
The two teams battle for 103 plus-minutes of scoreless soccer until the foul in the box which led to the UD winning penalty kick.
Delaware outshot ODU, 18-8 overall and 5-4 on shots on goal. Gideon Asante led ODU with three shots, while Chris Harmon had two. ODU's Evan Newton had four saves on the night as did Delaware's Kris Devaux.
The Monarchs return to action Wednesday night when they travel to Richmond, VA to take on VCU at 7 p.m. at the Sportsbackers Stadium .
