NORFOLK, Va. - Victoria Johnson tied her career high with two goals, including the game-winner in the 61st minute to give Old Dominion University women's soccer a 2-1 win over Northeastern Friday night at the ODU Soccer Stadium.

With the win, ODU improves to 4-8-1 and 2-5 in the CAA and NU drops to 7-6-1 overall and 2-4-1 in league play. ODU has won two out of their last three and the victory is the Lady Monarchs' first home win of the season.

The Lady Monarchs got things started in the first half when Kelly Evans dribbled down the right side and slid a pass just out of reach of the Huskies' keeper across to Johnson who kicked it home to give ODU the 1-0 lead in the 13th minute.

Northeastern tied the score in the 29th minute when Veronica Napoli sent a cross pass from the left sideline to Kristen Blake, who sent a shot just under the cross bar to tie the score at one.

Johnson and Evans went back on the attack again 16 minutes into the second half. Evans gave Johnson a pass in the middle, and Johnson dribbled to the right before firing a shot from 20 yards out that just snuck inside the left post to put the Lady Monarchs up 2-1.

Northeastern had an opportunity just six minutes later as Veronica Napoli got a clean look from 15 yards out but Brianna Alvarado dove to her left to make a diving save and keep ODU up one.

ODU came up with several more scoring chances, as Kelsey Williams had two shots that NU keeper Sarah Fylak made saves on and Kirstin Walker's shot with five minutes to go sailed just high.

Alvarado made five saves in goal to pick up the win while Fylak had six stops for NU.

Johnson led ODU with three shots while Napoli had four for the Huskies.

The Lady Monarchs continue their home stand Sunday as they take on No. 23 Hofstra Sunday at 1 p.m.
