NORFOLK, Va. - East Carolina scored three second half goals, including the game-winner with less than two minutes to play, to beat Old Dominion University women's soccer 3-2 Friday night at the Old Dominion Soccer Stadium.

Just after Old Dominion (1-1-1) tied the game at two on a Victoria Johnson goal, the Pirates' (2-2) Chrissy Gratz made a move to the center of the field and took a shot from 15 yards out that the ODU goalkeeper couldn't come up with to give ECU a 3-2 lead with under two minutes to play.

The Lady Monarchs got on the board in the 26th minute when Rachael sent a free kick into the box that Kirstin Walker headed past the ECU goalkeeper. The goal was the second of the season for Walker.

ODU had a chance to increase the lead but Jocelyn Weidner's shot from 20 yards out went off the right post.

The score remained 1-0 until the 49th minute. On ECU's first corner kick of the match, Tricia Tufts sent the ball in that Amanda Broz headed, it deflected off a ball in front and into the net to tie the score.

The Pirates took the lead in the 72nd minute when Gratz dribbled up the left side and sent a pass through to Amanda Malkiewicz who scored to put East Carolina up 2-1.

ODU kept fighting back, and broke through in the 86th minute on Johnson's first goal of the season. Carroll sent in a corner kick from the right side that Johnson headed past the ECU keeper. It was Carroll's second assist of the night and third of the season.

The Lady Monarchs outshot ECU 15-9 and also had more corners, 8-1.

Christiane Cordero made two saves for ECU while Brianna Alvarado made one for ODU.

Old Dominion is back in action on Sunday, Sept. 12 when they travel to Radford for a 1 p.m. match.
