NORFOLK, VA --- Old Dominion University athletic director Dr. Wood Selig announced today that men's soccer coach Alan Dawson has been awarded a new five-year contract. Dawson is the winningest men's soccer coach in Monarch history with a 149-82-23 mark in 13 years which includes six straight NCAACollege Cup appearances, and twice reaching the round of 16.

"Alan is one of the most respected coaches in college soccer. Coach Dawson's accomplishments at ODU are exceptional given the academic and on-the-field performances of our men's soccer programduring his tenure. This five year contract is designed to provide ODU soccer, our current and future student-athletes stability and continuity as we solidify the leadership for our program well into the future. Alan has earned this additional commitment by ODU athletics with his work ethic and outstanding performance. Our goals remain to be the premiere soccer program in the CAA and one of the nation's best annually." - Dr. Wood Selig, Athletic Director.

Dawson, the four-time CAA Coach of the Year and two-time Virginia Collegiate Soccer Coach of the Year led the Monarchs to the 2007 CAA title, and two other league finals. In the last seven years, ODU hasthe best conference record (48-17-8) with a winning percentage of .712.

Since coming to ODU in 1997, Dawson's teams have had three CAA Defenders of the Year, four CAA Rookie's of the Year, three CAA Players of the Year, seven NSCAA All-Americans, two freshmen All-Americans, and three Academic All-Americans.

Five of his student athletes have been selected in the MLS draft with two, Carlos Mendes (NY/NJ Red Bulls), and Nane Joseph (Toronto FC) currently playing in the League. In all 11 of his players have beenSelected to the MLS combine in each of the last seven years.
