Women's Soccer Falls Short at Towson, 2-1

TOWSON, Md. - Old Dominion University women's soccer outshot Towson 22-13, but was unable to upend the Tigers , falling 2-1 Sunday afternoon.

All three goals during the game were scored in the first half, all three within 10 minutes of each other.

Towson (5-4-1, 1-1) took the first lead of the game in the 15th minute on a goal by Melissa Gomes off a free kick.

Old Dominion (2-5-1, 0-2) struck back quickly when Jocelyn Weidner scored off an assist from Kate Kelly. The goal was Weidner's third of the year and Kelly's first assist of the season and her first career collegiate point.

The Tigers regained the lead just eight minutes later when Cheyenne Skidmore sent a cross pass to the front of the goal that Emily Banes headed in for the game-winner.

ODU nearly tied the game in the 48th minute when Kelsey Williams fired a shot that hit the post. Kelly Evans followed shortly thereafter but Jocelyn Papciak came up with the save.

Williams led ODU with four shots while Evans, Victoria Johnson, Weidner and Kelly had three apiece. Banes had six shots for the Tigers.

Lady Monarchs' goalkeeper Brianna Alvarado made three saves while Papciak made 10 stops, while the team made one.

Old Dominion finishes their road trip at UNC Wilmington on Thursday, when they take on the Seahawks at 7 p.m.
