Monarchs Host George Mason Saturday Night

NORFOLK, VA-- The ODU Soccer Monarchs host the Patriots of George Mason Saturdayat 7 p.m. in the ODU Soccer Complex. The Monarchs are 4-2 overall and 1-0 in theCAA, while Mason is also 4-2, but this will be their first league contest.

ODU defeated the Patriots last year in Fairfax, 1-0, but Mason leads the series, 16-14-1. They are led by pre-season All-CAA forward Victor Freeman who has one goal and one assist thus far this season. Sophomore midfielder Derek Markheim leads the team with two goals and one assist for five points. Eight different players have scored at least one goal for the Patriots this year. Mason's two losses have come to Penn and fifth ranked Maryland.

The Monarchs return to action after its, 1-0 victory over William and MaryTuesday night.

Sophomore Chris Harmon leads the Monarchs with three goals, two assists and eightpoints. Harmon ranks eighth in the CAA in total points. Jordan LeBlanc follows with two goals and one assist. Senior goalkeeper Evan Newton has three shutouts and a 0.60 goals against average. He is tied for first in the league in shutouts and fourth in goals against average.

Newton is just nine saves from breaking the school's career saves record heldby ODU Sports Hall of Famer Joey Mallia (1987-90) with 207. Newton already ownsthe ODU career shutout mark with 30.

After Saturday's match, ODU hosts fourth ranked North Carolina Tuesday night at7 pm. The Tar Heels reached the semi-finals of the NCAA College Cup last year.
