NORFOLK, Va. -The Old Dominion University women's soccer match with East Carolina tonight at the ODU Soccer Stadium will be played as scheduled at 7 p.m.
Gates open at 6 p.m. and ticket prices are $5 for adults, $4 for youth 17 and under, military, and senior citizens. Fans that display a current AAA membership card will be provided a buy one get one free adult ticket opportunity.
Old Dominion comes in to tonight's game with a 1-0-1 record while East Carolina sports a 1-2 mark. The Lady Monarchs tied Syracuse in the season opener, 0-0, before dismantiling VMI last week, 4-1. The Pirates lost at UNC Greensboro in the opener before topping Francis Marion 4-1. ECU lost to No. 10 Wake Forest last Friday.
About the Lady Monarchs: After a scoreless tie against Syracuse in the opener, ODU responded with a resounding four goals in the win over VMI. Junior Jocelyn Weidner led the attack with two goals and an assist. Amber Cook got ODU on the board when she headed in a corner kick from Rachael Carroll. The goal was the first of her career. After VMI scored to make the score 2-1, Kirstin Walker got a pass from Weidner and fired a shot past the VMI keeper to give ODU a two-goal cushion.
With an assist in the win over VMI, Victoria Johnson pulled into sole possession of fifth place on ODU's all-time list. The Norfolk native has 14 in her career.
Sophomore goalkeeper Brianna Alvarado has been solid in the first two games. She has made three saves on the year, but countless others by cutting off an attack. The sophomore picked up her seventh career shutout in the tie against Syracuse and her seventh career win in the triumph over VMI.
About the Pirates: Four different players scored goals for ECU in the win over Francis Marion. ECU returns its top-seven goal scorers from last season, led by Amanda Malkiewicz (6G, 4A, 16 pts) and Bailey Wilcox (7G, 1A,15 pts).
Christiane Cordero has played every minute of every game this year, recording eight saves and posting a 1.64 GAA.
The Series: East Carolina has won the last two meetings in the series. ODU's last win came in the 2006 season opener. The last three matchups have ended in a 1-0 score. ODU leads the all-time series 8-4.
Up Next: The Lady Monarchs travel to Radford for a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday, Sept. 12.
