NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion field hockey team will face one of the nation's toughest road trips this weekend as the Lady Monarchs travel to No. 2 Maryland Friday and No. 3 Virginia on Sunday.
ODU (1-1), which split a pair of games against nationally ranked foes last weekend, will take on the Tar Heels at 7 p.m. and Cavaliers at 1 p.m.
After dropping its season opener at No. 18 Penn State last Friday, Old Dominion rebounded with a 2-1 road win against No. 15 American two days later.
The Lady Monarchs got goals from 2009 All-CAA rookie selection Julie Hodge and senior Anna Kern. Junior Kathryn Kirk assisted on Kern's game-winning goal.
Maryland is led by senior Katie O'Donnell, who posted two goals and three assists in two Terrapin wins during the opening week of play. O'Donnell was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Virginia is also off to a 2-0 start after topping Saint Joseph's and Penn State in their first two contests. Paige Selenski leads the team with three goals and Taylor Swezey dished out a team-high four assists.
ODU leads the all-time series against Virginia, 32-11, but is 22-24-1 in the series with Maryland.
