2010-11 WBB Schedule

NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion women's basketball program has released its 2010-11 schedule that features games against four teams that qualified for last year's NCAA Tournament and six that qualified for the WNIT.

The slate includes home matchups against perennial power Tennessee and Atlantic Coast Conference foe Georgia Tech, road trips to NC State and to New Orleans, La. for the Tulane Tournament, and 18 Colonial Athletic Association contests.

"One of the hallmarks of our ODU women's basketball program has been a non-conference schedule that is among the strongest in the country," said Old Dominion Athletic Director, Dr. Wood Selig. "This year is certainly no exception as we face some of the best teams in women's college basketball, many of them coming to Norfolk this season. What an exciting opportunity for our student-athletes and fans to once again show the country the strength of our women's basketball program."

"We are proud of the relationship that Old Dominion women's basketball has with the best teams that women's basketball has to offer," said Lady Monarch head coach Wendy Larry. "Our schedule is once again indicative of that relationship. We will be extremely challenged in our non-conference schedule with the intent of being very prepared for our outstanding Colonial Athletic Association opponents come January."

The defending CAA regular season champion Lady Monarchs, who reached the second round of the WNIT last season, will host Georgia Tech, North Carolina A&T, Louisville, Tennessee, George Washington and Stony Brook in non-conference action at the Ted Constant Convocation Center this year.

The Yellow Jackets and Lady Vols qualified for the NCAA Tournament this past season, with UT garnering a number one seed and advancing to the Sweet 16.

The Lady Monarchs will travel to NC State, Florida, Richmond and Tulane for non-conference road games before the New Year. The Wolfpack reached the NCAA Tournament last year, while the Gators earned a WNIT berth.

The trip to New Orleans, La. (December 28-29) will be the final two non-conference tests for the Lady Monarchs before CAA play gets underway. ODU will face Charlotte on the tournaments first day and then will battle either Nichols State or NCAA qualifier and host, Tulane on the final day.

The Lady Monarchs will stay on the road to open conference play with a trip to Towson (January 2). ODU will also travel to Georgia State, Delaware, William & Mary, George Mason, James Madison, VCU, Hofstra and Drexel.

The Dukes won the CAA Tournament last year and qualified for the NCAA Tournament, while the Blue Hens, Rams, Pride and Dragons all competed in the WNIT.

Old Dominion's first conference home game will be on January 6th against George Mason. The Lady Monarchs will also welcome James Madison, VCU, Towson, Georgia State, Northeastern, UNC Wilmington, William & Mary and Delaware to the Constant Center. The dates and times of all conference games are subject to change.

Fans will also have the chance to see the Lady Monarchs three times before regular season play kicks off. The annual Blue/White scrimmage will take place on October 29th at 7 p.m. and ODU will host two exhibition contests against Davis & Elkin (November 5) and versus Bowie State (November 9). Both exhibition contests will tip at 7 p.m. at the Constant Center.

This years CAA Championship will be held at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Md. The 12-team tournament will run from March 10-13 with the winning team earning the leagues automatic bid into the 2011 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament.
