NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion field hockey team will get its first taste of game action Saturday as the Lady Monarchs will take part in the annual alumni game at the Powhatan Sports Complex. The 2010 Lady Monarchs will welcome back various standouts from past years to mix in with this years team. The game is set to get underway at 1 p.m.
ODU, which was picked to finish second in the Colonial Athletic Association after a vote of the league's nine head coaches last week, returns seven starters from the 2009 team. This will also be the first chance to view ODU's 10 newcomers.
Some of the past Lady Monarch greats scheduled to be in attendance include: Mimi Smith, Yogi Hightower-Booth, Samantha McLenegan, Elizabeth Sharpe, Becky Loy (umpiring), Melissa Leonetti, Kelly Driscoll, Katelyn Smither, Kathleen Shea, Hanna Warren, Kim Decker, Margarete Brandon and Kathy Fosina.
After the alumni game, ODU will begin the season with a four-game road trip. The first contest of the season will be at Penn State on August 27 at 5 p.m. The Lady Monarchs topped Penn State 2-1 in a battle of Top 20 teams last season.
