NORFOLK, Va. - Leigh Anne Baxter scored the only goal of the night in the 77th minute to lead Richmond to a 1-0 exhibition match win over Old Dominion University women's soccer Wednesday night at the ODU Soccer Complex.
The Lady Monarchs out shot Richmond 14-11 but were unable to find the back of the night. ODU held a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks as well.
Baxter put the Spiders on the board with 23 minutes remaining in the contest when she fired a free kick to the near post from the left side of the goal.
Old Dominion wasn't without chances, as Victoria Johnson gave ODU a chance early, but her shot from 20 yards away went just wide left.
In the second half, Ashlee Coutu had an opportunity from inside the box but her shot sailed just high.
Johnson and Aubrie Ewell led the Lady Monarchs with three shots apiece.
Virginia Chandler made four stops for Richmond while Brianna Alvarado made three saves for ODU while Laura Bush stopped two shots.
The Lady Monarchs return to action on Tuesday, Aug. 17 when they travel to George Washington for an exhibition match. ODU opens regular-season play on Sunday, Aug. 22 when they host Syracuse at 1 p.m.
